MOROCCO AND EUROPE

SIX CENTURIES IN THE EYES OF OTHERS
Tour et Taxis à Bruxelles / Bibliothèque Nationale de Rabat / Université d'Anvers / Mairie de Paris / Bibliothèque Francophone Multimédia de Limoges

The project of organizing an exhibition on relations between Morocco and Europe has been germinating in the Center of Judeo-Moroccan Culture (CCJM) for some years. It has now taken on particular relevance following the agreement signed on October 13 2008 between Morocco and the European Union. Though relating solely to trade, this agreement does provide a starting point for reflecting on the ebb and flow of relations between Europe and Morocco in historical terms.

FREUD IN MOROCCO

A LOOK AT THE IDENTITY
Centre de la Culture Judéo-Marocaine à Bruxelles

We live in an age where identity conflicts are ubiquitous national and international community and cause folds. This exhibition aims to contribute to a reflection on how to avoid conflicts of religious, ethnic and community convening the symbols and rituals of cultures that make up the fabric of our modern society.
If there is no apparent relationship between Freud and Morocco, yet there is a clear link between them: the focus on the dream and its interpretation. Present in many cultures, but particularly in the Moroccan tradition, the interpretation of dreams is also the title of the book founder of psychoanalysis. In the case of traditional societies against the belief is predominant, whereas a scientific analysis, Freud has found material that allowed him to theorize the psychological construction of the individual.
The visitor is led to wonder what he considers his identity in spaces that involve his perception of himself and the other. How is the construction of the individual and their integration into society?
For an interactive approach to symbols and rituals that punctuate the life cycle and the cycle of the year in different communities, the visitor acquires tools to better understand the rigidity of symbolic frameworks and the necessary flexibility that allows the individual keep both integrated in a group and there singling creatively.
Similarly, while facing issues that are central to current social concerns.
Identity can it be free from any influence? How aggressive - personal and / or collective - is it channeled through the transition to the symbolic order? How the individual may legitimately be excluded without singling out the group?
The objects presented, mostly from the collection of the Centre for Jewish-Moroccan Culture, the beauty of artistic masterpieces and diversity of crafts can open the question of identity through a look at daily. They also undertake the recognition of otherness, that which is in us, and that of the other. The exhibition is decidedly didactic for young and old alike.
