Les médersas constituent un témoignage vivant du passé intellectuel et scientifique de la ville de Fès. Construite en 1321, la médersa Sahrij est connue pour la splendeur du bassin qui anime son patio de bonne heure, pour son architecture harmonieuse et pour ses décors en bois, plâtre et zelliges fins et abondants. Elle constitue donc l'un des exemples les plus beaux et les plus fins de l'architecture mérinide.

The city of Fez has always been known to be a city of mystery, culture and hidden architectural treasures. One of the attractions to Fez is its Medersas, of which the Sahrij Medersa is one of the most beautiful. Built in the year 1321, the Sahrij Medersa's name was derived from the rectangular water basin that is located within the medersa, and in the Arabic language “Sahrij” means “basin”.
