Franz Hogenberg (*1535 Mecheln, † 1590 Colonia) were a engraver and a etcher. Hogenberg to publish with George Braun the city views book “Civitates Orbis Terrarum” starting from 1570. The complete work with 6 volumes includes more than 600 realistic city views and city plans with a total volume from approx. 1600 pages, in the format 280 x 410 mm. They were published between 1572 and 1618 and showed all larger cities in Europe, Africa, Asia and even in America.
